For Patients: Before Your Surgery
Day Before Surgery

The surgery scheduler should have informed you of your surgery time a few days before so be prepared to arrive on time

Shower with the Hibiclens (antibacterial soap)

Eat a light supper and a bedtime snack
Day of Surgery

Do not eat or drink anything prior to surgery starting at 12AM

Shower with the Hibiclens soap

Brush your teeth
-
Do not use any perfume, creams, lotions or powders
-
Take only the medicine that you were instructed by your prescribing doctor with a small sip of water
Pre-Surgery Checklist
Obtain Clearance - A clearance letter and labs need to be faxed from your primary care physician and any specialty physicians (cardiologist, hematologist, nephrologist, etc).
Current Medications - Ask the prescribing physician when or if to stop any prescribed medications.
CT Scan - Call (480) 425-5000 or SimonMed (866) 614-8555 to schedule your appointment with SMIL (Needed for: Total Knee, Partial Knees, Total Hips, Total Shoulders, and Reverse Shoulder).
Fees - Our insurance specialist will contact your insurance company to obtain authorization for your surgeon only. The facility, the surgical assistant and anesthesia are billed separately from our practice at Renovation Orthopedics. Please contact the facility if you have any questions about the other fees.

Time Off Work - FMLA/STD/LOA paperwork can be filled out by our office for $25 per packet (Please allow 3 business days for processing).
Hibiclens Soap - Purchase this at your local drug store.
Laxative - Purchase this at your local drug store.
Exercises - Begin your exercises and continue after surgery.

Review your surgery booklet
Check your Email - You will receive an email from our office about your surgery. Please respond to the surgery scheduler with information requested. It may go to spam please check that folder in case you don’t receive it.
Physical Therapy Please set up your physical therapy to begin within the first week after your scheduled surgery. You have been emailed your prescription.
Surgical Dressing Do not remove surgical dressings.
Things to Bring to the Hospital
Insurance Documents and ID
A copy of your Healthcare Directive or Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare if you have one
You may need a form of payment for discharge
Cases for your glasses, dentures, and/or contact lenses
Loose, comfortable clothes and walking shoes
Bring devices you use to walk at home such as a cane, walker, or brace
Leave your valuables at home. You are responsible to keep track of your items
